This home we renovated this home for the Laney family one of our favorites. This traditional bungalow cottage was skillfully remodeled using the original square footage. Everything is new in this modern bungalow: roof, plumbing, electrical. The massive kitchen in the previous layout gave us so much space to work with. And the sun room on the back of the house served as a perfect master suite. This once small 2 bedroom 1 bath is now an open 3 bedroom 2 bath with a large sun-filled master.

LIVING ROOM

Objective: Create a comfortable living space that flows seamlessly into the kitchen. We decided to leave the majority of load bearing wall between the living room and the kitchen in place to create the illusion of a larger living room versus one just added to the kitchen. We did however, remove the door and create a wide opening into the kitchen. The hardwoods throughout are about 80% original. We replaced only the damaged portions and resurfaced the rest.

KITCHEN + DINING

Objective: Construct the perfect entertaining space that allowed for gatherings in the kitchen and dining. The kitchen boasts carrara marble countertops and soft-close shaker cabinets adorned with bronze hardware. The previous kitchen was so large that it actually allowed us to create a space that housed the new kitchen, dining area, and walk-in laundry room. To add character to the space we used a rustic barn door enclosure to the living room.

BEDROOMS

Objective: Construct a master suite separate from the additional bedrooms. The two bedrooms on the left side of the house basically stayed the same. The rooms used to be identical but we actually made the office smaller to accommodate the new laundry room in the kitchen. The large sunroom in the rear of the house served as the perfect space for a master suite. The windows created the most beautiful space and the old laundry room served as master bath and walk-in closet. The master bedroom also had direct access to the rear deck.

BATHROOMS

Objective: Construct a master off-suite as well as a hallway bathroom that serves both the living space and the additional bedrooms. The hallway bath was in such good condition that we actually were able to keep the original tile and tub and just reglaze them. The new master bathroom was added to the space that once housed the laundry room, which was perfect since a water line was already running.

EXTERIOR

Objective: Create a bright house with plenty of curb appeal. For the Magbee property we wanted the home to scream “Look At Me, I’m Cute”. So we kept the maroon foundation and paired it with white paint and a turquoise door. The new gabled portico with cedar shakes were just the icing on the cake.
